Griddle Cakes With Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp syrup
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 2 tbsp shortening
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg (optional, for every 2 cups flour)

Method

  1. 1 In a bowl, combine milk, water, salt, syrup, flour, shortening, and baking powder.
  2. 2 Beat the mixture until smooth.
  3. 3 Heat a griddle slowly over medium heat.
  4. 4 Test the griddle by dropping water on it; it should boil when ready.
  5. 5 Lightly grease iron griddles with salt-rubbed cloth; aluminum needs no grease.
  6. 6 Pour batter onto griddle and turn when bubbles form on the surface.
  7. 7 Serve immediately, stacking no more than five or six cakes.
