Griddle Cakes With Syrup
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp syrup
- 2 ½ cups flour
- 2 tbsp shortening
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1 egg (optional, for every 2 cups flour)
Method
- 1 In a bowl, combine milk, water, salt, syrup, flour, shortening, and baking powder.
- 2 Beat the mixture until smooth.
- 3 Heat a griddle slowly over medium heat.
- 4 Test the griddle by dropping water on it; it should boil when ready.
- 5 Lightly grease iron griddles with salt-rubbed cloth; aluminum needs no grease.
- 6 Pour batter onto griddle and turn when bubbles form on the surface.
- 7 Serve immediately, stacking no more than five or six cakes.
