  • 4 oz chocolate, grated
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 heaping tbsp butter
  • ¼ tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method

  1. 1 Combine chocolate, sugar, milk, butter, and cream of tartar in a saucepan.
  2. 2 Boil the mixture, stirring constantly, until the syrup hardens when dropped in cold water.
  3. 3 Remove from heat and immediately stir in vanilla.
  4. 4 Beat the syrup vigorously for about 90 seconds until it thickens and becomes too stiff to beat.
  5. 5 Pour into a greased pan and cut into squares before fully cooled.
