  • fruit (peaches, plums, cherries, or apples)
  • sugar
  • lemon peel (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Mix 1 ½ cups flour and ¾ cup butter to make a common pie crust.
  2. 2 Prepare fruit: halve peaches and plums, stone cherries (red only), or slice apples thinly.
  3. 3 If using apples, stew until tender but not broken, drain, and chop fine.
  4. 4 Mix fruit with sugar. For juicy fruit, place a small teacup on the bottom crust to catch juice, then pile fruit around it.
  5. 5 Cover with top crust, prick with a fork, crimp edges, and grate loaf sugar over the top if desired.
