Fruit Cobbler

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • Fresh or stewed fruit (apples, peaches, apricots, rhubarb, plums, or gooseberries)
  • Sugar to taste

Method

  1. 1 Fill a deep buttered baking dish with fresh or stewed fruit sweetened to taste.
  2. 2 Sift together 2 cups flour and 2 tsp baking powder. Rub in ½ cup butter.
  3. 3 Add 1 beaten egg and 1 cup milk to the flour mixture to form a batter.
  4. 4 Spread the batter over the fruit and bake until the crust is done.
  5. 5 Serve hot or cold with cream or preferred sauce.
