Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons currants
  • 4 tablespoons chopped nut meats
  • 2 tablespoons chopped candied citron peel
  • 3 eggs
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  1. 1 Cream Crisco and sugar together, then add well-beaten egg yolks.
  2. 2 Beat egg whites stiffly and add alternately with the milk.
  3. 3 Stir in sifted flour, baking powder, salt, fruits, nuts, and vanilla extract.
  4. 4 Divide mixture into greased and floured gem pans.
  5. 5 Bake for 20 minutes in a moderate oven (350°F).
