Fruit And Nut Cinnamon Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cake yeast
- 1/4 cup lukewarm water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup melted Crisco
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup chopped coconut
- 1/8 lb chopped candied citron peel
- 1/2 cup chopped English walnut meats
- 1/2 cup currants
- 1/2 cup sultana raisins
- 1/2 teaspoon powdered cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon powdered mace
- Flour
Method
- 1 Scald milk, then add yeast cake dissolved in tepid water and 1 1/2 cups flour; beat well, cover, and let rise until light.
- 2 Add sugar, salt, well-beaten eggs, and Crisco; add enough flour to knead, then knead and let rise again.
- 3 Roll dough to 1/8-inch thickness, spread with melted Crisco, and sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, mace, fruit, and nuts.
- 4 Roll like a jelly roll and cut into 1-inch pieces.
- 5 Place pieces in a Crisco-greased pan, let rise, brush with melted Crisco, and bake in a hot oven (425°F) for 20 minutes.
