Frozen Vanilla Custard Ice Cream

Ingredients

  • 1 pint milk
  • ½ pint cream
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 1 scant cup granulated sugar
  • 1 level tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Method

  1. 1 Scald 1 pint milk and ½ pint cream in a saucepan.
  2. 2 Whisk together 1 beaten egg, 1 scant cup sugar, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch.
  3. 3 Pour the egg mixture into the hot milk and cream, stirring constantly until it boils.
  4. 4 Remove from heat and let the mixture cool completely.
  5. 5 Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla and freeze according to your ice cream maker's instructions.
