Fried Yeast Doughnuts

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 5 tablespoons Crisco
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 4 1/2 to 5 cups flour, sifted

Method

  1. 1 Cream Crisco and gradually add sugar.
  2. 2 Add well-beaten eggs to the creamed mixture.
  3. 3 Sift dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg) together.
  4. 4 Add dry ingredients and milk alternately to the egg mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. 5 Roll out the dough as thinly as possible.
  6. 6 Cut into shapes and fry in hot Crisco until golden brown.
