Fried Yeast Doughnuts With Nutmeg
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cake yeast
- 1/4 cup lukewarm water
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
- Flour
Method
- 1 Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.
- 2 Scald milk, cool, then add yeast, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and flour to make a drop batter; let rise.
- 3 Cream shortening with sugar, add beaten eggs, remaining salt, and nutmeg.
- 4 Combine creamed mixture with yeast batter and enough flour to make a stiff dough; let rise again.
- 5 Shape into small balls, place in greased pan, and let rise until light.
- 6 Fry in hot shortening for 4-5 minutes until done; drain and dust with powdered sugar.
