Method

  1. 1 Peel the onions, parboil them, and drain well.
  2. 2 Heat shortening in a saucepan. Roll onions in flour and brown lightly in the fat.
  3. 3 Cover the pan closely, add water, and cook very slowly for 20 minutes, shaking occasionally.
