Fig And Milk Pastry Envelopes
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons shortening
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 cup chopped figs
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Method
- 1 Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- 2 Add shortening and rub in lightly.
- 3 Add milk slowly to form a stiff dough.
- 4 Roll dough out ¼ inch thick and cut into squares.
- 5 Place one tablespoon of chopped figs on each square.
- 6 Brush edges with cold milk, fold into envelopes, and press edges to seal.
- 7 Brush tops with a mixture of beaten egg, 1 tablespoon milk, and 1 teaspoon sugar.
- 8 Bake in a 425°F oven for about 20 minutes.
