Egg Thickened Vanilla Custard Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Method

  1. 1 Heat milk in a double boiler, reserving a small amount to moisten the cornstarch.
  2. 2 Mix sugar, cornstarch, and salt; moisten with the reserved cold milk.
  3. 3 Add the cornstarch mixture to the hot milk and stir until thickened.
  4. 4 Cook for 15 minutes, then beat the egg and stir it into the mixture.
  5. 5 Continue cooking until the egg thickens, then add vanilla and cool before serving.
