Egg Thickened Vanilla Custard Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
- Pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Method
- 1 Heat milk in a double boiler, reserving a small amount to moisten the cornstarch.
- 2 Mix sugar, cornstarch, and salt; moisten with the reserved cold milk.
- 3 Add the cornstarch mixture to the hot milk and stir until thickened.
- 4 Cook for 15 minutes, then beat the egg and stir it into the mixture.
- 5 Continue cooking until the egg thickens, then add vanilla and cool before serving.
