Dutch Oven Baked Nutmeg Custard
Ingredients
- 1 quart milk
- 6 eggs
- loaf sugar to taste
- freshly grated nutmeg
Method
- 1 Heat the milk until quite hot, then let it stand to cool completely.
- 2 Whisk the eggs into the cooled milk and sweeten with sugar to taste.
- 3 Pour the mixture into custard cups and place them in a Dutch oven with water, ensuring the water does not boil into the cups.
- 4 Bake with the oven lid off for 10-15 minutes until the custard has the consistency of jelly.
- 5 Serve in the cups with a teaspoon on the side, and grate nutmeg on top once cooled.
