Dutch Oven Baked Nutmeg Custard

Ingredients

  • 1 quart milk
  • 6 eggs
  • loaf sugar to taste
  • freshly grated nutmeg

Method

  1. 1 Heat the milk until quite hot, then let it stand to cool completely.
  2. 2 Whisk the eggs into the cooled milk and sweeten with sugar to taste.
  3. 3 Pour the mixture into custard cups and place them in a Dutch oven with water, ensuring the water does not boil into the cups.
  4. 4 Bake with the oven lid off for 10-15 minutes until the custard has the consistency of jelly.
  5. 5 Serve in the cups with a teaspoon on the side, and grate nutmeg on top once cooled.
