Deep Fried Sugar Crullers
Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup cream (sweet or sour)
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ cup sugar
- 3½ to 4 cups flour
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Oil for deep frying
Method
- 1 Beat the eggs, then stir in the cream and milk.
- 2 Sift the dry ingredients (baking soda, salt, sugar, and 3½ cups flour) and combine with the liquid. Add enough flour to make a soft dough that can be rolled.
- 3 Mix well, cover, and let the dough stand for 2 hours.
- 4 Turn out onto a floured board and roll to ¼-inch thickness. Cut into 6-inch by 1-inch strips.
- 5 Fry in deep fat at 360°F until brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
