Deep Fried Sugar Crullers

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup cream (sweet or sour)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 3½ to 4 cups flour
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Oil for deep frying

Method

  1. 1 Beat the eggs, then stir in the cream and milk.
  2. 2 Sift the dry ingredients (baking soda, salt, sugar, and 3½ cups flour) and combine with the liquid. Add enough flour to make a soft dough that can be rolled.
  3. 3 Mix well, cover, and let the dough stand for 2 hours.
  4. 4 Turn out onto a floured board and roll to ¼-inch thickness. Cut into 6-inch by 1-inch strips.
  5. 5 Fry in deep fat at 360°F until brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
