Custard Bread Pudding With Candied Fruit

Ingredients

  • Bread crumbs (enough to fill small cups 2/3 full)
  • Chopped candied fruit (a little)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1½ cups milk
  • Vanilla or wine sauce (for serving)

Method

  1. 1 Grease small cups and fill them 2/3 full with bread crumbs and a little chopped candied fruit.
  2. 2 Beat 2 eggs without separating, then mix in 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1½ cups of milk.
  3. 3 Pour the egg mixture carefully over the crumbs in the cups.
  4. 4 Stand the cups in a pan of boiling water and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 15 minutes.
  5. 5 Turn out onto plates and serve with vanilla or wine sauce.
