Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup dried peas, beans, or lentils, soaked overnight and cooked until tender
  • 1/2 cup turnips, chopped
  • 1/2 cup carrots, chopped
  • 1 cup outer parts of celery, chopped
  • 1/2 cup peas
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons drippings
  • 3 tablespoons whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup meat stock or water
  • 1 cup tomato juice and pulp
  • 1 teaspoon onion juice

Method

  1. 1 Melt the drippings in a pot.
  2. 2 Add the celery salt, pepper, flour, curry powder, and salt to the fat.
  3. 3 Gradually stir in the meat stock or water.
  4. 4 Add the cooked legumes, turnips, carrots, celery, peas, tomato juice, and onion juice.
  5. 5 Cook for 20 minutes.
  6. 6 Serve very hot.
