Crumble Topped Coffee Cake
Ingredients
- 2¼ cups flour, sifted
- 1 cup milk
- 3½ tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup butter
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 cup dry bread crumbs
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Method
- 1 Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- 2 Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and beat well, then mix in milk.
- 3 Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just enough to moisten.
- 4 Turn batter into a greased 8-inch square baking pan.
- 5 Cream butter and sugar, then mix in bread crumbs and cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over the cake dough.
- 6 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 40 to 50 minutes. Serve hot.
