Ingredients

  • 2¼ cups flour, sifted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Method

  1. 1 Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. 2 Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and beat well, then mix in milk.
  3. 3 Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just enough to moisten.
  4. 4 Turn batter into a greased 8-inch square baking pan.
  5. 5 Cream butter and sugar, then mix in bread crumbs and cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over the cake dough.
