Creamy Stewed Celery in Brown Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 bunch celery, cut into 6-inch lengths
- ½ cup soup stock or gravy
- Salt and pepper to taste
- A pinch of nutmeg
- 4 tablespoons cream
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon flour
Method
- 1 Boil celery in salted water until tender, then strain.
- 2 Heat soup stock or gravy in a saucepan.
- 3 Add celery, salt, pepper, and nutmeg to the stock.
- 4 Whisk butter and flour together to make a thickening.
- 5 Stir the thickening into the sauce, then add cream.
- 6 Simmer for a few minutes until thickened and serve.
