  • 1 quart black beans
  • 4 quarts water
  • 1 boiled ham bone
  • 6 cloves
  • 4 peppercorns
  • 1 glass wine (for serving)
  • 2-3 slices lemon (for serving)
  • Fried bread cubes (for serving)

Method

  1. 1 Combine beans, water, ham bone, cloves, and peppercorns in a large pot.
  2. 2 Boil on low heat for 12 hours.
  3. 3 Rub the mixture through a colander to create a smooth soup base.
  4. 4 Cool the soup completely.
  5. 5 To serve, add a glass of wine to each tureen, along with lemon slices and fried bread cubes.
