Creamy Cod Fish Chowder

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs fresh codfish, boiled and deboned
  • 2 onions, chopped fine
  • ½ lb salt pork, cut into small dice
  • 6 potatoes, cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt and white pepper to taste
  • 1-2 tbsp flour
  • 1½ cups milk
  • Oyster crackers, for serving

Method

  1. 1 Chop onions and fry with diced salt pork until softened.
  2. 2 Add potatoes, water, salt, and pepper; stew for 20 minutes.
  3. 3 Thicken slightly with flour, then stir in milk and bring to a boil.
  4. 4 Add the boiled, deboned codfish and heat through.
  5. 5 Serve over oyster crackers in a hot tureen.
