  • 1 pint oysters
  • liquor from oysters
  • 1 can (12 oz) minced clams
  • 1 quart milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • cold milk for roux
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • minced parsley
  • powdered mace
  • grated onion
  • crackers for serving

Method

  1. 1 Chop the oysters and heat them gently with their own liquor in a pot.
  2. 2 Add the minced clams and the quart of milk to the pot.
  3. 3 Rub the butter and flour together until smooth, then stir into the soup with a little cold milk to thicken.
  4. 4 Season with salt, pepper, minced parsley, powdered mace, and grated onion.
  5. 5 Serve hot with crackers on the side.
