Cream Of Tartar Scones With Currants
Ingredients
- 4 cups flour
- 5 tablespoons Crisco
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 egg
- sweet milk
- currants or raisins (optional)
Method
- 1 Rub Crisco into flour, then mix in sugar, salt, baking soda, and cream of tartar.
- 2 Beat the egg. Mix half the egg with some sweet milk to form a soft dough with the dry ingredients.
- 3 Knead the dough very lightly on a floured board. Divide into five pieces, roll out, and cut into four small cakes each.
- 4 Place scones on a greased baking sheet. Brush with the remaining egg and bake in a 425°F oven for 10 minutes.
