Ingredients

  • 1 quart flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 egg-sized piece butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • enough buttermilk to thicken

Method

  1. 1 Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt together.
  2. 2 Rub in an egg-sized piece of butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. 3 Add enough buttermilk to form a thick dough.
  4. 4 Shape into scones and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until golden.
