Cornstarch Vanilla Pastry Cream

Ingredients

  • 5 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 heaping tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (or flavoring of choice)

Method

  1. 1 Beat egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch together in a saucepan until smooth.
  2. 2 Gradually stir in the milk, then place over medium heat.
  3. 3 Stir constantly until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil.
  4. 4 Remove from heat, stir in your chosen flavoring, and let cool.
