Cornmeal Cream Sauce Over Toast

Ingredients

  • slices of toast
  • 1 heaping tablespoon cornmeal
  • 4 cups milk
  • salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 egg whites

Method

  1. 1 Dip toast slices in boiling water and place in the oven.
  2. 2 Stir cornmeal into boiling salted milk and add butter. Cook until thickened.
  3. 3 Beat egg whites to stiff peaks and stir into the thickened milk. Boil briefly.
  4. 4 Pour the sauce over the toast and bake for 5 minutes before serving.
