Cornmeal Cream Sauce Over Toast
Ingredients
- slices of toast
- 1 heaping tablespoon cornmeal
- 4 cups milk
- salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 egg whites
Method
- 1 Dip toast slices in boiling water and place in the oven.
- 2 Stir cornmeal into boiling salted milk and add butter. Cook until thickened.
- 3 Beat egg whites to stiff peaks and stir into the thickened milk. Boil briefly.
- 4 Pour the sauce over the toast and bake for 5 minutes before serving.
