Coconut Cake With Boiled Frosting
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 5 egg yolks
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- 4 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- 5 egg whites
- 1 cup shredded coconut
- Boiled frosting
Method
- 1 Cream 1/2 cup butter with 2 cups sugar.
- 2 Add beaten yolks of 5 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 cup milk, and 4 cups flour sifted with 1 tsp baking soda and 2 tsp cream of tartar.
- 3 Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites and 1 cup shredded coconut soaked in milk.
- 4 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F).
- 5 Spread with boiled frosting and sprinkle thickly with grated coconut.
