Cocoa Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb stale bread
  • 1 pint milk
  • 1 oz butter
  • 3 oz sugar
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 3 eggs
  • vanilla extract to taste

Method

  1. 1 Boil bread in milk until soft and mashed.
  2. 2 Stir in cocoa (smoothed with hot water), sugar, and vanilla. Cool slightly.
  3. 3 Mix in beaten egg yolks, then fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
  4. 4 Pour into a buttered dish and bake for 1 hour.
