Classic White Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
Method
- 1 Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat, being careful not to brown it.
- 2 Add flour and stir quickly until well mixed and smooth.
- 3 Gradually add milk while stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
- 4 Bring to a boil, stirring carefully from the sides, until thickened.
- 5 Stir in salt and pepper. Serve immediately over vegetables or eggs.
