Classic White Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 1 compressed yeast cake, moistened
  • 1 tsp salt
  • sufficient flour

Method

  1. 1 Combine water and scalded milk; let cool until lukewarm.
  2. 2 Add moistened yeast cake and salt to the liquid.
  3. 3 Gradually add flour, beating constantly, to form a dough.
  4. 4 Knead until soft, elastic, and non-sticky. Place in a greased bowl.
  5. 5 Let rise in a warm place for 3 hours.
  6. 6 Divide into loaves, knead 5 minutes, and place in greased pans.
  7. 7 Let rise until very light, slash tops, brush with water, and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
