Classic White Bread
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup scalded milk
- 1 compressed yeast cake, moistened
- 1 tsp salt
- sufficient flour
Method
- 1 Combine water and scalded milk; let cool until lukewarm.
- 2 Add moistened yeast cake and salt to the liquid.
- 3 Gradually add flour, beating constantly, to form a dough.
- 4 Knead until soft, elastic, and non-sticky. Place in a greased bowl.
- 5 Let rise in a warm place for 3 hours.
- 6 Divide into loaves, knead 5 minutes, and place in greased pans.
- 7 Let rise until very light, slash tops, brush with water, and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
