Classic Southern Corn Bread
Ingredients
- 1 cup corn meal
- 1 cup flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1½ cups milk
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons shortening
Method
- 1 Mix and sift the dry ingredients (corn meal, flour, baking powder, sugar, salt).
- 2 Add milk, beaten egg, and melted shortening; beat well.
- 3 Pour into a greased shallow pan and bake in a hot oven (425°F) for about 25 minutes.
