Classic Madeira Cake

Ingredients

• 1/2 lb fine wheatmeal
• 1/2 lb castor sugar
• 1/2 lb butter
• 5 eggs
• flavoring to taste

Method

1. 1 Beat the butter to a cream.
2. 2 Add the sugar, then the well-beaten eggs, the meal, and the flavoring.
3. 3 Line a cake tin with buttered paper.
4. 4 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 1 to 1-1/2 hours.
