Classic Baking Powder Scones
Ingredients
- 1 lb all-purpose flour
- 2 oz granulated sugar
- 3 oz unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 pint whole milk
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp milk or egg white for glaze
Method
- 1 Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2 In a large bowl, rub the cold butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3 Stir in the sugar and baking powder. Make a well in the center and pour in the milk.
- 4 Mix lightly with a fork until the dough just comes together. Do not overwork.
- 5 Divide the dough into two equal pieces. Roll each into a ball, then flatten to 3/4-inch thickness.
- 6 Cut each piece into triangles. Place on the baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes until golden.
- 7 Brush the hot scones with milk or egg white immediately after removing from the oven.
