Classic Apple Pie With Nutmeg Topping
Ingredients
- apples, sliced thin
- water
- pie crust (divided)
- butter
- egg yolk
- sugar
- nutmeg
- powdered sugar
Method
- 1 Line a pie dish with the bottom crust. Fill with sliced apples, ensuring the layer is at least an inch thick. Add a little water.
- 2 Prepare the top crust by rolling out a portion of dough, dotting with butter, folding, and rolling again 2-3 times. Place over apples and cut slits for steam.
- 3 Brush the top crust with beaten egg yolk. Bake until the crust is golden and apples are tender.
- 4 While the pie is still hot, carefully lift off the top crust. Mix sugar, nutmeg, and a little butter with the hot apples.
- 5 Replace the top crust and dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
