Citron Raisin Sweet Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 cake yeast
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • 3/4 cup Crisco
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup chopped citron peel
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 1 egg
  • 5-1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. 1 Scald milk, add half the sugar and salt. When lukewarm, add yeast dissolved in water and 1-1/2 cups flour. Mix, cover, and let rise until light.
  2. 2 Add Crisco, remaining sugar, flour, raisins, citron peel, and lemon extract. Knead lightly, cover, and let rise again.
  3. 3 Divide into small pieces, place on greased tins, and let rise. Brush with beaten egg and bake in a hot oven (425°F) for 20 minutes.
