Cinnamon Sugar And Salt Bagels

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/4 cups white flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Canola oil (for coating bowl)
  • Cinnamon and sugar (optional, for topping)
  • Salt (optional, for topping)

Method

  1. 1 Mix sugar, yeast, water, and flours together. Rub the inside of a bowl with oil, place the dough in the bowl, and flip to coat with oil.
  2. 2 Let the dough rise for 30 minutes. Punch it down and divide into 16 portions. Shape each into a ball and poke a hole through the middle.
  3. 3 Place bagels on a well-greased baking sheet. Cover with a towel and let rise again for 15-20 minutes.
  4. 4 Bring 2 inches of water to a boil in a pot. Gently place bagels in the boiling water for 1 minute on each side using a slotted spoon.
  5. 5 Remove bagels and dry on a towel. Return to the baking sheet. Sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar or salt if desired.
  6. 6 Bake at 475°F for 8-12 minutes until golden brown.
