Cinnamon Raisin Sweet Rolls

Ingredients

  • 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons seeded raisins
  • Melted butter (for brushing)

Method

  1. 1 Sift 2 tablespoons of sugar with flour, salt, and baking powder. Rub in the shortening lightly.
  2. 2 Beat the egg into the water, then add slowly to the dry ingredients to form a dough.
  3. 3 Roll dough 1/3 inch thick on a floured board. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with remaining sugar, cinnamon, and raisins.
  4. 4 Roll up like a jelly roll and cut into 1½ inch pieces. Place cut-side up on a greased pan.
  5. 5 Sprinkle tops with more sugar and cinnamon. Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 30 to 45 minutes. Remove from pan immediately.
