Cinnamon Raisin Sweet Rolls
Ingredients
- 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 egg
- ½ cup water
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons seeded raisins
- Melted butter (for brushing)
Method
- 1 Sift 2 tablespoons of sugar with flour, salt, and baking powder. Rub in the shortening lightly.
- 2 Beat the egg into the water, then add slowly to the dry ingredients to form a dough.
- 3 Roll dough 1/3 inch thick on a floured board. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with remaining sugar, cinnamon, and raisins.
- 4 Roll up like a jelly roll and cut into 1½ inch pieces. Place cut-side up on a greased pan.
- 5 Sprinkle tops with more sugar and cinnamon. Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 30 to 45 minutes. Remove from pan immediately.
