Cinnamon Jam Filled Yeast Doughnuts
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs wheat flour
- 1/4 oz yeast
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 3 tbsp sugar
- lukewarm milk
- jam or marmalade
- oil or vegetable shortening for frying
Method
- 1 Dissolve yeast in a little warm milk.
- 2 Mix flour, yeast mixture, egg, cinnamon, and sugar. Add enough milk to form a moist, handleable dough.
- 3 Let dough rise for 1 1/2 hours near a warm stove.
- 4 Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into rounds.
- 5 Place a small amount of jam or marmalade in the center of each round. Seal edges to form balls.
- 6 Fry in hot oil or vegetable shortening until brown and cooked through. Serve warm.
