Cinnamon Jam Filled Yeast Doughnuts

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs wheat flour
  • 1/4 oz yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • lukewarm milk
  • jam or marmalade
  • oil or vegetable shortening for frying

Method

  1. 1 Dissolve yeast in a little warm milk.
  2. 2 Mix flour, yeast mixture, egg, cinnamon, and sugar. Add enough milk to form a moist, handleable dough.
  3. 3 Let dough rise for 1 1/2 hours near a warm stove.
  4. 4 Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into rounds.
  5. 5 Place a small amount of jam or marmalade in the center of each round. Seal edges to form balls.
  6. 6 Fry in hot oil or vegetable shortening until brown and cooked through. Serve warm.
