Chopped Meat Casserole With Grated Onion

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cold meat, cut into small pieces
  • 6-7 potatoes, peeled, boiled, and mashed
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1 cup boiling milk
  • 1 1/2 cups gravy or stock thickened with 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 tbsp butter or dripping
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. 1 Place cut meat in a deep earthen dish. Grate onion into thickened gravy and pour over meat.
  2. 2 Mash boiled potatoes with salt, pepper, milk, and butter until smooth.
  3. 3 Spread potato mixture over the meat. Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until nicely browned.
