Chocolate Shortbread Sticks
Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons butter
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 5 teaspoons cocoa powder
- 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
- 1¼ to 1½ cups sifted pastry flour
- pinch of salt
Method
- 1 Cream butter until soft, then gradually add sugar and beat well.
- 2 Mix in beaten egg, milk, and vanilla until thoroughly combined.
- 3 Sift cocoa, baking powder, and a pinch of salt with half the flour; stir into the wet mixture.
- 4 Add remaining flour to form a firm dough that does not stick to fingers.
- 5 Chill dough on ice until hard enough to handle.
- 6 Roll dough thin on a cocoa-dusted surface, cut into ½-inch by 3-inch strips.
- 7 Bake in a moderately hot oven (350°F) for 3-4 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
