Chocolate Sauce Sponge Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 heaping tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3 oz chocolate
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup boiling water
  • ¼ tsp vanilla

Method

  1. 1 Mix baking powder with flour and sift.
  2. 2 Cream butter and sugar, then beat in egg.
  3. 3 Dissolve salt in milk and add to butter mixture.
  4. 4 Add flour and beat well together.
  5. 5 Turn batter into a tube cake tin.
  6. 6 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 25 minutes.
  7. 7 Turn pudding onto a dish, bottom side up.
  8. 8 Melt chocolate, then stir in sugar and boiling water until smooth.
  9. 9 Stir vanilla into the chocolate sauce and serve with pudding.
