Chocolate Gingerbread Cake
Ingredients
- 1 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup sour milk or cream
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cold water
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 2 oz chocolate, melted
- 1 tbsp butter, melted
Method
- 1 In a large bowl, mix molasses, sour milk or cream, ginger, cinnamon, and salt.
- 2 Dissolve baking soda in cold water, then add to the bowl along with 2 tbsp melted butter.
- 3 Stir in sifted flour until combined. Mix chocolate and 1 tbsp butter together, then fold into the batter.
- 4 Pour into three well-buttered deep tin plates or cake pans.
- 5 Bake in a moderately hot oven (425°F) for about 20 minutes.
