Chocolate Covered Maple Fondant Acorns
Ingredients
- 2 cups maple syrup
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup cold water
- Confectioners' sugar (as needed)
- 2 or more squares Baker's Chocolate
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ¼ cup fine-chopped almonds, browned in the oven
Method
- 1 Combine maple syrup, granulated sugar, and cold water in a saucepan.
- 2 Cook the mixture to make fondant, following standard fondant directions without cream of tartar.
- 3 Work some fondant with confectioners' sugar into cone shapes and let harden for an hour.
- 4 Melt chocolate and vanilla over hot water, stirring until smooth.
- 5 Dip the fondant cones in the chocolate mixture and place on waxed paper.
- 6 Dip the base of each cone in chocolate again, then roll in browned almonds.
