Chocolate Cake With Water Boiled Frosting

  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 ounce chocolate, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sugar (for frosting)
  • 3 tbsp water (for frosting)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)

Method

  1. 1 Beat butter and sugar until creamy. Mix in melted chocolate and eggs, beating vigorously for 5 minutes.
  2. 2 Stir in milk, then fold in flour mixed with baking powder and vanilla until smooth.
  3. 3 Pour into a buttered shallow cake pan and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 30 minutes.
  4. 4 For frosting, heat sugar and water until nearly melted. Boil gently for 4 minutes, add vanilla, and cool until blood warm.
  5. 5 Beat frosting until thick and white. Warm slightly to pour, then spread quickly over the cooled cake.
