  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 whole egg
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • ½ cup powdered cocoa
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 egg white
  • ½ cup apple jelly
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

Method

  1. 1 Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. 2 Cream sugar and shortening, then add egg yolk, whole egg, and milk.
  3. 3 Mix in flour, baking powder, cocoa, and cinnamon until combined.
  4. 4 Divide batter into two layers and bake for 25 minutes.
  5. 5 Beat egg white and apple jelly into a stiff meringue for filling.
  6. 6 Boil powdered sugar and cornstarch with water to make a smooth icing, then spread on cake.
