Chestnuts Simmered In Browned Sugar Syrup
Ingredients
- 1 lb chestnuts
- 1/2 lb sugar
- 3/4 cup water
- Vanilla extract to taste
Method
- 1 Boil chestnuts in plenty of water until tender but not mushy. Peel them carefully.
- 2 Simmer sugar and 3/4 cup water for 10 minutes to create a syrup.
- 3 Add peeled chestnuts to the syrup and cook gently until the syrup browns.
- 4 Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, and let cool slightly before serving in a glass dish.
