Cheesy Au Gratin Potatoes
Ingredients
- 4 medium russet potatoes, peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch slices
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup margarine
- 1 teaspoon flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese
- Black pepper to taste
Method
- 1 Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a large casserole dish.
- 2 Melt margarine in a saucepan and stir in flour to create a roux.
- 3 Gradually whisk in milk and cook until slightly thickened, then remove from heat.
- 4 Stir in most of the cheese, salt, and pepper until melted and smooth.
- 5 Layer potatoes, onion, and sauce in the dish, repeating until all ingredients are used.
- 6 Bake for one hour until potatoes are tender and top is golden.
