Cheese Stuffed Puff Pastry Strips
Ingredients
- 1 oz butter
- 1 whole egg plus 1 yolk
- 2 oz Parmesan cheese, grated
- Remains of puff pastry or flaky crust
- Salt and pepper to taste
- A pinch of cayenne pepper
- Extra grated cheese for sprinkling
Method
- 1 Cream the butter in a bowl. Beat in the whole egg and yolk, then stir in the grated Parmesan cheese.
- 2 Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and a little cayenne. Divide the puff pastry into two portions and roll them out thinly.
- 3 Place one piece of pastry on a greased baking sheet. Spread the cheese mixture evenly over the top, then cover with the second piece of pastry.
- 4 Mark the top with the back of a knife in strips one inch wide and three inches long. Brush with beaten egg and bake in a 425°F oven until cooked.
- 5 Cut out the strips with a sharp knife. Serve on a napkin and sprinkle with extra grated cheese.
