Caraway Seed Coffee Cake
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 5 tablespoons shortening
- 2 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons caraway seeds
- 6 tablespoons flour
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1.5 tablespoons caraway seeds
- 2 tablespoons shortening
Method
- 1 Grease a deep layer-cake pan and line it with paper, then grease again.
- 2 Beat together sugar, egg, 5 tablespoons shortening, 2 cups flour, baking powder, milk, and 2 tablespoons caraway seeds until mixed.
- 3 Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- 4 Rub 6 tablespoons flour, brown sugar, 1.5 tablespoons caraway seeds, and 2 tablespoons shortening between fingers until crumbly.
- 5 Spread the crumbly mixture over the batter and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 35 minutes.
