Candied Winter Squash With Walnuts

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/4 pounds winter squash (such as butternut, acorn, or pumpkin)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Boil the sugar and water until it forms a thick syrup.
  2. 2 Wash, peel, and seed the squash. Cut into pieces and cook in the syrup until very thick and almost all liquid is absorbed.
  3. 3 Arrange the squash on a plate and decorate with walnuts and cinnamon, if using.
