  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 4 tbsp shortening
  • 6 tbsp syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 2 ½ cups rye flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Method

  1. 1 Place buttermilk, baking soda, shortening, syrup, and egg in a mixing bowl.
  2. 2 Beat to mix, then add rye flour and baking powder.
  3. 3 Beat to thoroughly mix.
  4. 4 Pour batter into well-greased and floured muffin pans.
  5. 5 Bake for 30 minutes in a moderate oven (350°F).
